Gender Focus

 

International Women’s Day is always a day of reflection. And for me, a time to look back, but more importantly, to look forward. 

In 2017, we set a goal to become a gender-balanced workforce at Accenture by 2025. Thanks to the focus, diligence and most importantly, the hard work of our leaders and people, we are making steady progress toward this goal and achieving it is within our sights.

Since setting this goal, we’ve evolved and expanded our focus to equality and equity for all. In my role, I aim to focus beyond the next horizon, to look at what’s next to accelerate true equity, inclusion and belonging for every person at Accenture and extend that impact in the communities where we work and live. 

Yet as I reflect today and look ahead, I do so through the lens of this fragile time in our world. Like so many, my thoughts are with those suffering deeply in Ukraine and Ukrainian people around the globe, particularly the Ukrainian women who have left their country without their sons, fathers and husbands. To support the women who have courageously left their country, we are piloting the first edition of an Accenture Academy for female refugees from Ukraine to build their technology skills – first in cybersecurity, so they can face the future not only with courage but also with marketable skills. Childcare will be provided so they can focus on their learning. And in the pilot, mixed groups of Polish and Ukrainian women will come together to help support and accelerate their assimilation. I’d like to thank our Accenture team in Poland, along with our learning, corporate citizenship, technology and communications experts from around the globe, who are bringing this to life at speed and so we can scale in the future to include other high demand tech skills like Cloud and Data, offering even more career pathways.

There is no better day than IWD to look within and ask ourselves not only are we using our voices to accelerate change, but what more we can do to ACT with greater compassion, intention and urgency to support others and accelerate equality and equity for all. Because when we lift one, we lift all.
