A day in a life of a Junior HR Systems Analyst at ITV

Aasim Mohammed, Junior HR Systems Analyst at ITV, shares her experience of working at the media company.

Hi Aasim, how would you describe HR Systems at ITV and how is it different to HR Systems in other businesses?

The team manages resources from our recruitment system to training up teams across ITV and managing all of our colleague data. Our role is about managing and implementing the changes to these systems and the business, to create the most integrated and efficient solutions possible.

ITV HR Systems has an exciting yet challenging vibe, where everyday is a new adventure. My job is very stakeholder driven – so I get to meet lots of new people. Our goal is to make our systems even friendlier for our colleagues to use and our success is reflected by the value we add to the business.

What does a normal working day look like for you?

I start the day with going to the gym - so I feel energetic and motivated once I reach the office. A typical day would be, seeing what meetings I have scheduled in and working around this to focus on both project work and business as usual stuff. From time to time I will travel to Manchester to visit stakeholders, and make sure they’re satisfied with the systems, find them easy to use and listen to their feedback to improve our systems. Always focusing on our goal of keeping our internal customers happy.

Of course, at times things don’t always go according to plan and with systems there can be a ‘system downtime’ point, but the way you handle it is vital and the key is communication.

As a Junior HR Systems Analyst, what’s the most important part of your job?

That my colleagues are happy, able to use our systems quickly and easily meaning they reach their goals, and overall, us all working together to deliver results.

How does what you do plug into ITV’s overall strategy?

HR Systems sits within Shared Services, which is a support function for the whole organisation. We’re here to support colleagues and make it easier for them to achieve their goals and meet ITV’s overall strategy.

What’s your most memorable moment here?

Most memorable moment I would say was meeting Susanna Reid. It was on a team bonding day, learning about what her job involves and how our roles differ. We were able to share what a typical day looks like in our roles, getting a good insight to the different areas of the business and how we all play our part in achieving ITV’s strategy.

And finally, what advice would you give for someone wanting to get a job in HR Systems at ITV?

Be confident, outgoing and willing to explore. Don’t be afraid of getting it wrong, rather learn from your mistakes and continue to go the extra mile - that will make you successful at ITV.
