Our Principal Architects lead significant architectural domains determining strategy, direction, roadmaps and solutions to deliver society wide outcomes. 

With the recently announced £4.1bn investment in technology and change over five years, we are moving at pace to consolidate and transform our technology estate by introducing cloud solutions and simplifying our infrastructure topology to a set of best-of-breed, industry leading capabilities. This will enable the society to realise the benefits of a simplified, industry leading and reusable technology estate including the ability to increase product launch agility, operational resilience and provide rich configurable functionality and services for our member propositions. 

The infrastructure domain covers our datacentres, voice and data networks, our on-premise hosting environments and our desktop services and collaboration technology. You will to ensure that we have an efficient, resilient and secure set of environments that can be effectively operated to host all our applications and business services. We will be also managing the appropriate balance of cloud and locally hosted services. 

You will become a member of the Chief Technology Officer's Extended Leadership Team and will be part of a peer group of Principal Architects who lead architecture across a number of different technology and business domains.

Who we're looking for
You will have experience in infrastructure architecture and technology in large, complex regulated environments, working with both engineering teams and the C-suite including the following experience and skills: 

As a minimum requirement you'll:
  • have experience in building and delivering infrastructure strategy across multiple technologies.
  • have worked at a detailed level in multiple infrastructure domains, Networking, Hosting, Storage, Collaboration, Resilience.
  • Have led architecture teams in organisations with complex technology estates
  • Have leadership experience in growing and developing high performing architecture teams
  • Have the ability to communicate complex technical decisions and concepts to both business leaders and technical engineering teams 

It would be nice if you also had:
  • Experience of working in an agile delivery environment
  • Experience of working in Financial services
What you'll be doing
As a leader within our Chief Technology Office you will be accountable for building a high performing team of technical architects, ensuring our technology infrastructure is always available and architected to meet the changing needs of our members and business communities.
