The MOD Estate is vast, covering about 1.8% of the United Kingdom land mass. The estate includes approximately 50,000 houses, 80,000 technical assets such as runway networks. It also includes 860 listed buildings, 770 scheduled monuments, 10000 archaeological and monuments, 170 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and eight registered gardens and parks.
Within the Estates Team you will be involved in a wide breadth and variety of professional work on this high-profile public estate. The Role
We are seeking a motivated Senior Development Surveyor to join and lead an established team within our expanding Estates network.
The successful candidate will be a customer focused team leader, and working closely with military and civilian colleges will deliver exciting and varied estate disposal activities from inception to legal completion.
The MOD Estate is wide and varied, On this unique Estate variety is certain and no 2 days will be the same!
This is an excellent opportunity to join the established DIO Acquisitions and Disposals Team (A&D) and the Estates network of highly skilled Surveyors, delivering subject matter professional advice to a wide range of customers.

As an experienced property professional, the successful candidate will bring experience and understanding of commercial and residential development to DIO, taking on the responsibility for co-ordinating a diverse variety of disposal projects in the UK, focussing on maximising value from the sale of surplus assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing clear disposal strategies including the preparation of technical and marketing reports to support the approval of business cases.
The role will provide professional advice on a variety of property matters including development, valuation and town planning. Assisting in the delivery of MoD Estate rationalisation and receipt targets and you will undertake a variety of property and planning related tasks to enable the delivery of site disposals working with a wide range of internal and external departments, customers and partners. The role requires management of all disposal activities from inception to legal completion.
The successful candidate will lead, develop and support your team enabling delivery for all objectives. Creating strong working relationships within your team, Estates and wider DIO and MOD, you will promote collaborative working practices with all team members, customers, and partners in support of the management and development of the MOD Estate.

Estates are the in-house real estate team within DIO advising our customers on current and future infrastructure needs. We acquire, manage, safeguard and dispose of the Defence real estate.
Our unique customer knowledge and insight of the Defence Estate enables our in-house team of chartered surveyors, town planners, registered valuers and technical staff to provide in-depth advice, adding value to our customers, delivering programmes across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Overseas. This includes but is not limited to: property advice, safeguarding, byelaws, rationalisation programmes, acquisitions, disposals, lease management, accommodation programmes, commercialisation initiatives, rating, valuation programmes and the management of the tenanted estate.
Estates have four delivery teams, Acquisitions & Disposals (A&D) - delivering the Acquisitions & Disposals Programme, Accommodation Optimisation Team (AOT) providing strategic accommodation advice and support, Land Management Services (LMS) providing a comprehensive land, estate and property management service and Safeguarding protecting specific assets and operational capabilities. Acquisitions and Disposals is the in-house Estates team responsible for disposing of all surplus MOD land and property to realise capital receipts for re-investment in the retained MOD estate. The team runs an extensive pipeline of sites for disposal supporting major infrastructure programmes. The team also acquire land and property for MOD projects when required.Licences

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is the estate expert for Defence, supporting the armed forces to enable military capability by planning, building, maintaining, and servicing infrastructure. Our responsibilities include:
