Job description


The Team

The Learning and Development department provides business skills, personal and management development courses/ programmes which are available to partners, associates, business services staff and secretaries globally. These are delivered by our in-house Learning and Development team to help meet the strategic objectives of the practice. The training is designed and delivered based on acknowledged best practice and the latest thinking in management, leadership, business development and personal effectiveness. It also blends knowledge and understanding of the firm's culture, values and procedures to provide training that is relevant to the work undertaken in the firm.

The team further provides open courses, coaching and customised sessions to individuals, teams and groups. A variety of teaching and learning methods including presentations, case studies, role plays, video and forum theatre are used to ensure that peoples' different learning styles are catered for. In addition, we provide training to the firm's clients

The Role

Reporting to the Learning & Development Practice Manager, this role will be responsible for helping to achieve the team's global objectives.

  • Proactively planning and allocating our curriculum of training, ad-hoc work and projects and monitor progress alongside the L&D Practice Manager

Management responsibility
  • Day-to-day operational line management responsibility of L&D Co-ordinators, PAs and E-learning Administrator. To include on the job support/mentoring/feedback including individual weekly catch-ups and conducting mid-terms and appraisals
  • Monitor and allocate work to the Co-ordination, PA and E-Learning teams - through inboxes and ad-hoc requests - and ensure all tasks are being carried out in an effective and timely manner and raising any concerns with the L&D Practice Manager where deliverables are at risk
  • To co-ordinate programmes - to be decided when required by the Practice Manager/ Leadership Team completing course administration including booking rooms, managing delegate bookings, producing course materials (on occasion) and arranging internal and external speakers
  • Prepare the comprehensive induction package for new L&D joiners
  • Redesign process notes where necessary for quality and effective use, oversee creation and updates for all programmes
  • Regular liaison with L&D Practice Manager and Leadership Team to ensure consistency and best practice is being adhered to at all times
  • Become an expert on the SRA Continuing Competence regime and to answer queries as appropriate
  • Manage communication with our travel agent, process hotel invoices for our programmes and discuss queries with hotels and/or travel agent as well as checking, monitoring and sign off of all course travel related expenses via the Co-ordination team


Global Service Centre (GSC) required support
  • Being the primary point of contact and a "subject matter expert" for advice and guidance on L&D-related administration queries internally and for the GSC team
  • Carry out quality checks and being the initial point of contact for any escalations regarding work undertaken or feedback, escalating to the line manager where appropriate
  • Help to identify any training gaps/development areas based on work requests being received/sent to the GSC. Look at process efficiencies and identify areas for improvement


Learning Management Systems (LMS) required support
  • Become the Learning Management System (LMS) Super User (Expert) and use knowledge to review processes in light of the LMS implementation. Making improvements for increased efficiency and effectiveness



Optional development opportunities - by arrangement
  • Update materials for the induction held each week and deliver from time to time a 1 hour module on the programme
  • In partnership with the Diversity and Inclusion team, manage the parent's transition coaching programme
  • In collaboration with the L&D Manager and the diversity & inclusion team, run team building activities on PRIME (insight and inspire) work experience programmes
  • In collaboration with the trainee recruitment team, run team building activities for the Trainee Solicitor Vacation Scheme
  • Researching and running team building activities during phase one of the Professional Skills Course (PSC)
