Workplace Adjustments at BEIS

At BEIS, we are committed to making our workplaces accessible and will assist any employee with their disability, long-term health conditions and will make reasonable adjustments. Some examples include:

• make physical changes to the workplace, e.g. rearrange desks so a wheelchair user can get around the office more easily,
• modify or provide equipment such as voice recognition software, specialist chairs or desk aids, provide services such as a sign language interpreter or support worker,
• change working patterns, e.g. agree reduced or flexible working hours to avoid peak congestion or to accommodate medical appointments, allow additional rest breaks, allow working from home etc.,
• arrange tailored training – changed responsibilities or work patterns can raise new problems and specialised training can help overcome these,
• allow additional time for completion of particular duties (which may also be reflected in an individual’s objectives and performance appraisal),
• reallocate tasks to other members of staff, and/or
• change assessment procedures to make sure colleagues with disabilities are not put at unfair disadvantage, e.g. someone with dyslexia may need longer to complete a timed written test

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is an independent, dedicated, confidential information and counselling support service which is free to all staff and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
