Trans Inclusion Policy at Haymarket

Haymarket is completely committed to ensuring that transgender employees are treated with dignity, respect and are not disadvantaged in the workplace.

That’s why we are proud to announce the launch of Haymarket’s Trans Inclusion Policy in the UK, outlining the steps we take to welcome and support transgender employees, and ensure they are working in a supportive, inclusive environment.

This has been a collaborative effort between the LGBTQ+ Network and the People team, to promote a workplace that is inclusive of everyone, regardless of their gender identity. This is inclusive of everyone at Haymarket and relevant to all current and prospective employees.

Such policies are so important, as we are currently living through a period where hate crimes against trans people have reached a record high and doubled in the past year alone

As a Network, we were particularly keen to ensure this policy can help any current or future colleagues in the workplace who are transitioning, and continue to support afterwards too. We also hope the creation of this policy will encourage people to educate themselves further on the trans community and want to be active allies.

This allyship extends outside the workplace as well. We hope you take the information from this policy, our articles on the Link and content in the LGBTQ+ Community to help the trans community when they face prejudice and discrimination.

One area where this happens frequently is toilets. We want to support all our colleagues to use the facilities that best suit their needs. In Bridge House, the shower facilities are gender neutral, as well as the accessible gender-neutral toilets on the ground floor and second floor. We want all colleagues to be able to use the toilets that best suit them, without fear or worry.

Another area where we can support trans or non-binary colleagues is by moving away from cisnormativity (and heternormativity as well). This means not assuming that those around us fit into the norm of the gender binary. Through acknowledging this, we are more likely to be understanding and supportive of those in the Trans community (and the wider LGBTQ+ community).

We hope that everyone supports the creation of this policy and its aims to further Haymarket’s commitment to being a truly inclusive place to work.
