Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentDuring the month of Ramadan, many of our colleagues are fasting from dawn until sunset each day. We want to ensure we provide our colleagues with the right levels of support and provide line managers with guidance on how to offer this support to continue to create an inclusive culture.
Lucas Butler, Deputy site operations manager at Mitie, manages a very diverse team. He shared how he and his team support colleagues who are fasting during Ramadan:
“During the day, whilst colleagues are fasting, we allow them to take extra breaks. We ensure they work in shady areas when it’s hot, and adapt their duties to ensure colleagues balance physical and static roles.
We believe it’s important to respect all faiths and traditions. Just making the effort to account for traditions that you don’t necessarily know or understand helps foster a culture of loyalty, trust and mutual respect.
The biggest thing I’ve learnt is a sense of community. Something I feel wasn’t really given value in my own upbringing. That culture has spread into our workforce. Even as a manager, I’ve never felt so supported, respected and connected.
When you’re lucky enough to become part of such a fantastic community, work just stops feeling like work.”
Time off for religious reasons can be requested.
