Diversity and Inclusion Group at Office for Nuclear Regulation
Creating a healthier workplace environment for everyone at ONR is the Diversity and Inclusion Group, where unions and management work closely with each other to settle upon pragmatic actions.
National Equality Standard
We are delighted to be recognised for our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion by gaining accreditation to the National Equality Standard (NES).
This is a great achievement for ONR and is all down to the dedication, passion and hard work of our people who are committed to strengthening our culture of diversity and inclusion. The accreditation is clear confirmation that we put our people first and value the diversity of ideas, views and contributions from all of our people, regardless of their background, experiences or role, something we’re incredibly proud of.
Over 115 documents assessed and one-to-one interviews with staff at all levels including the Chief Executive, followed by a number of focus groups:
Our areas of strength were identified as us having:
a strategy – D&I is included within strategic theme three: 'Creating a culture of inclusion and excellence' within our Strategy 2020-25;
a detailed D&I action plan in place - which is reviewed regularly and updated using a colour Red, Amber Green system. The review includes success measures and outcomes;
an engagement survey - our surveys contain key questions relating to D&I, such as “I feel I belong within ONR”, and appropriate actions are taken in response to the findings;
strong disclosure rate data - After several successful data disclosure campaigns, we have a disclosure rate of 91.7%;
mental health & wellbeing is strong - continuous efforts to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of staff, e.g. Mental Health First Aiders, Confidential Support Network, Employee Assistance Programme;
culture - the values and behaviours required to promote an inclusive culture are clearly identified and embedded within the performance appraisal process; and
policies and practices - we have a comprehensive suite of D&I policies available to employees, which are clear and easy to follow. These include transitioning at work, gender reassignment, bullying and harassment, and menopause.
