Charity and volunteering initiative at Network Rail

Network Rail supports charities in a variety of ways, including, gift-in-kind contributions to out Charity of Choice, employee fundraising, volunteering and station collections. 

Some of the great ways that our employees contribute: 

  • Employee fundraising over the last two years has averaged £200,323 per year
  • Advertising at our 18 managed stations is commercially valued at £102,000 a month
  • Payroll giving – an average of £46,845.49 per month is given to a variety of charitable causes

Supporting local charities 

In addition to supporting our national Charity of Choice, employees working on our eight Routes organise their own fundraising and volunteering activities for local charities in their areas.

To help make this possible, all of our people are entitled to up to five days’ volunteer leave to help UK registered charities and Network Rail led community engagement activity such as our community safety work, early engagementand Community Rail work.

In 2015/16, our people spent more than 11,511 hours working as volunteers on a wide variety of charitable or community engagement work. The volunteer work our people have been involved in includes volunteering at hospices, charities for homeless or disabled people, STEM support, heritage railways and environmental charities.
