Learning and Development

CareeRS is Reed Smith’s competency-based career development programme. Its purpose is to provide the firm’s staff with the transparency, development opportunities and support they need to achieve career satisfaction and success with us.

Development Options

To help associates progress against the competencies, CareeRS provides a wide variety of development opportunities, from training programs mapped to nine core competencies, to on-the-job development, pro bono opportunities, client and intra-firm secondments, online resources, and more.

We have been keen to create opportunities for our lawyers to engage with the firm’s leadership and developed these plans further in 2015, offering partner-led panels on career development and an inaugural Airtime lunch. This gave a group of our senior lawyers the opportunity to meet with members of the region’s senior leadership team and discuss the firm’s strategy and future growth plans.

In 2015, we also continued the value-added offering of graduate teams conducting business research for clients as part of our innovative MA/LPC course, ran management development and coaching programmes for in-house lawyers, and continued our award-winning City Development Forum peer learning group for senior client contacts. In 2016, we have a number of similar events planned across EMEA.

For our lawyers, there were a number of programmes run for regional teams across EMEA. These included our Newly Qualified Conference, our Senior Associate Business Development programme and our Partner Leadership programme. In addition, a number of skills development programmes were run across EMEA, in particular in our Athens, Munich, Paris, Hong Kong and Singapore offices.
