Advancing Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Talent at GWR

Despite many changes in society, our organisation is not as diverse as it needs to be to reflect the communities we serve and the customers using our services.  Minority ethnic colleagues are particularly under-represented in leadership roles and that’s why we’re implementing a suite of actions, emanating from our Inclusion and Diversity Strategy, to support their attraction, retention and career progression.

There are two development programmes, designed and delivered by an expert external supplier (EDIT Development) to which ethnically diverse colleagues can apply:

  1.  REACH FORWARD
    This programme aims to build the capabilities and confidence of colleagues who have experience of line management and have the aspiration to move into a ‘Head of’ or equivalent role within the next 1-2 years (examples include Driver Managers, Guards Managers, Station Managers, Production Managers).
  2. REACH UP
    This programme aims to build the capabilities and confidence of colleagues who have the aspiration to move into their first people management role in the next 12-18 months eg Supervisory or Team Leader roles
