Event Information
This event is being run jointly by WISE and Leeds City Council. The event is sponsored by NG Bailey with the support of other local employers including Northern Power and Siemens.
The project aims to encourage girls and young women from the South Leeds region to consider the rewards and opportunities a career in the STEM sector can offer them. The event is an interactive self-discovery workshop and is based on the WISE “People Like Me” innovative research findings to engage girls with STEM careers.
The event is directed at school girls (13-18) and will include parents and teachers. The aim is to support the girls to consider the type of person they are, and offer them opportunity to meet and speak with female STEM role models with a view to their considering a STEM career, and being made aware of the variety of routes including Higher Education, and Technical Apprenticeships. The session will highlight the wide variety of STEM career roles and opportunities available at all levels, and to all girls and women, and will challenge negative perceptions of the industry.
Research shows that positive role models are the most effective way of breaking down the stereotypes and myths that young people, parents and teachers have about careers in this sector, and in supporting them to consider this career option positively.
We hope that you will find the event useful, informative and fun.
