You never need an excuse for a good book. But there's coming up for National Read a Book Day on September 6th anyway. It’s a celebration of all things literary, inviting people to be transported elsewhere for the day via a great read.

If you’re looking for something to whet your appetite for your next career challenge. There’s a couple of classic texts you might want to settle into:

What Colour is Your Parachute? By Richard N. Bolles

This is a tour through a bit of everything you need to consider when it comes to a job search. There’s material on how to create an eye-catching résumé and cover letter, as well as how to improve your networking. It’ll also talk you through interviewing, and negotiating skills. It also tackles the important question of working out quite what the career you want it.

'How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie

Carnegie's classic text is about how to manage people. It talks a lot about networking, and also job interviews. Read what he thinks on how to make people like you and win them over to your side. It’s always about making the most of an opportunity. For example, not dominating the conversation. Instead, finding places where you and whoever you’re talking too agree.
