Action for Blind People – Employer Engagement

People who are visually impaired have one of the highest unemployment rates of the working population, with a disability, in the UK. With advances in technology and the wealth of resources available to fund, encourage and support both employee and employer this should no longer be the case. DWF LLP and The Clear Company are proud to be supporting an event that we all believe has the potential to change perceptions in a really positive way - by removing some of the uncertainty for employers. Action for Blind People – Round Table Employer Engagement Event Date: Tuesday 20th January Time: 1400-1600 Location: DWF LLP - 20 Fenchurch Street, London EC3M 3AG This, free to attend, round table event will bring together employers who are committed to the recruitment and retention of talented people who have a disability and, specifically, people with a visual impairment. Using information gathered from 14 of Action for Blind People’s employment teams across England, the event provides an opportunity for employers to learn about the challenges job seekers who are visually impaired face getting into, staying and progressing in employment. The programme will enable attendees to ask questions and talk with people who are visually impaired, along with Action’s Employment Coordinators and other experts in the field of disability recruitment and retention. Action will use stories from some of the people we have worked with to showcase best practice- and there will be a chance to hear about the RIDI Award winning partnership model, developed by Sky Blue/Carrilion and Action for Blind People, and its positive impact for everyone involved. Delegates will also hear about the Big Lottery ‘Extending the Reach' project and the funding and support that it provides to secure sustainable employment for people who are visually impaired.
