Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentOn Monday 6th April a new respite centre opened to NHS staff responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in London.
The centre is operated by Wellcome volunteers and Wellcome service partners.
After our buildings closed, ELT agreed to convert the ground floor of 215 into a respite centre.
We also put a call out for volunteers on 27 March without whom we couldn’t go ahead. The response was amazing and is deeply appreciated by the NHS colleagues who have benefited from the centre.
A working project group from UCLH and Wellcome signed-off that the respite centre meets the safety and wellbeing standards required by the NHS.
A very different looking Street
The Street area is now transformed to meet the Public Health Guidelines for shared spaces, our panel rooms are now spaces to have a nap and meeting room G91 is set up linking online to counselling support for debriefing after a shift.
Free food and drink, being able to connect to loved ones and having a change of scene from the hospital are the things NHS staff have most enjoyed thus far.
There is no fixed duration for the respite centre. It will continue until such a time the NHS staff no longer need it or Wellcome is ready to return to working from the 215 building.
Thank you
These things don’t happen without the hard work and imagination of many. It has been a herculean task that everyone has pulled together on.
A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has volunteered.
