Throughout January, the Cabinet Office celebrated Wellbeing Month in style with a number of exciting events, activities and staff blogs. The aim of the month was to encourage staff to focus on their wellbeing and take the time out to de-stress. To ensure there was something for everyone, be it part time workers, home workers or those with busy work schedules, the Cabinet Office Wellbeing team ran a variety of events every day, amounting to 47 wellbeing events across the month! The activities ranged from yoga classes to mindfulness sessions and even to nutrition workshops. Below we share some of the highlights.
On Thursday 9 January, Simon Thomas, former Sky Sports and Blue Peter presenter, joined Civil Servants in 70 Whitehall to share his powerful personal story on mental ill health and grief.
On the 14 January, a thousand Civil Servants took the time out to visit the 6 therapy dogs in the Treasury building. Research shows that dogs improve wellbeing, provide comfort and reduce stress and it definitely felt like it!
On Thursday 23 January, Civil Servants in London were invited to take part in a number of health initiatives. These included:
A host of activities were run outside of London too, notably on 29 January there was a Crocheting and Knitting relaxation activity in Victoria Square, Birmingham.
The Cabinet Office Wellbeing team also used the month to promote their mindfulness and meditation app Headspace, free to all Cabinet Office subscribers.
We are very proud of our Wellbeing work throughout the month, especially as this forms part of our continued efforts for the Civil Service to be the UK’s most inclusive employer by 2020.
