To celebrate Autism Awareness Month in April, the Disability, Neurodiversity and Allies (DNA) Employee Resource Group, in partnership with our People Advisory business (Ridgeway), hosted a virtual Lunch and Learn delivered by Ambitious about Autism (AaA).
During the session, AaA discussed how, as a business and as individuals, we can support autism in the workplace. The session also challenged us as a business to enhance our policies and processes in line with best practice and offered some practical hints and tips on making our recruitment practices, and workplaces, more inclusive. Attendees came away from the session with a clearer idea of how to be an active ally for those with Autism.
AaA is a national charity that stands with autistic children and young people to champion their rights and create employment opportunities. Children and young people are at the heart of their decision-making, policy work and campaigning. The charity run specialist education services, and an award-winning employment programme, partnering with businesses to make workplaces more accessible and inclusive to those with Autism. Ridgeway has worked with AaA as their charity partner since 2020.
As part of their ongoing partnership, the People Advisory business took part in the Employ Autism programme, hosting an intern sourced by AaA. This initiative was a success on many fronts: it resulted in the intern becoming a full-time employee, and colleagues at Teneo becoming more inclusive in their recruitment and working practices. AaA commented that “it was great to work with Charlotte and everyone at Ridgeway on the first autism internship. The team are always open to learning and understanding how they might approach situations in a different and more inclusive way.”
