I’m Mit Radia, a Consultant in the Management Consulting Team at Teneo and part of the Charity Fundraising Team. I have been working at Teneo for just over a year.
I was part of the team that helped to organise the Lake District 10 Peaks Challenge, which was planned to raise money for our charity partner, Tommy’s, who help support vital research into miscarriage, baby loss and premature birth. I was also one of the brave 37 Teneoites who decided to participate in the challenge!
I decided to take part in the challenge as it presented a great opportunity to bond with some of my colleagues – no team-building activity can replicate spending over 12 hours together trying to conquer some tough and gruelling peaks. Having never been to the Lake District or undertaken a hike, I thought the challenge presented an excellent opportunity for me to do both whilst raising money for Tommy’s.
The experience was amazing. I was blown away by the Lake District’s stunning views – I’d argue it has some of the best views in the UK (the pictures do not do it justice)! The challenge was much tougher than I imagined; there is no doubt I underestimated the trek and was naïve to think it would just be like a ‘walk in the park’! Nothing can prepare you for the rocky terrain you must navigate and the different weather conditions you face throughout the day. My legs are still sore four days after the event!
After starting the walk before 7 am, we reached atop Cat Bells – our 10th and final summit - just after sunset, around 7 pm. It was a massive accomplishment. An indescribable and unique joy swept the team before we faced the reality of having to descend several hundred metres to get back to our coach – all after over 12 hours of walking and around 2000m of ascent!
I’d highly recommend the Lake District to anyone. And I’m very grateful that Teneo allowed me to undertake the challenge, all whilst raising money for Tommy’s (for whom we have now raised nearly £100k over three years). Teneo offers its team chances to get involved with planning opportunities like the Lake District 10 Peaks Challenge, which contributes to the company's culture and supports something beyond our regular client work, which is great to have in the workplace. I can definitely say the challenge is something I will speak about fondly for many years to come!
