Technology beats the over 55's Part 2

I was thinking about the blog I wrote earlier, the fact that 55 plus find it hard to come to terms with new technology. This brought me to thinking about the residential home I volunteer at.

You may be wondering what modern technology has got to do with people who are in a home.

The residents have just this week moved in to a new development which hosts state of the art technology. Not only does it provide wonderful facilities it has technology which was not available in the old home.

The new facilities provides technology to keep the residents safe and help the staff in making the residents more comfortable.

In society today technology is everywhere and everyday there are changes that come with the technology.

I in my earlier blog said that the over 55's need help to understand it, but there are times when it is easier to learn it for yourself, for one reason the satisfaction that you have learnt something new, but also the fact that it is more likely to be remembered.

For myself this is true as I sit here writing with my tablet, which I taught myself how to use and come to grips with adding new icons and finding new apps that make writing easier.

Referring back to the home, they will be having computer courses and possibly learning how to send emails and possibly even set up their own Facebook page!

The days of putting pen to paper are nearly gone and technology is here to stay, whether we like it or not.

It may take time for the benefits of new technology to be appreciated. It is a case of using it otherwise there may be the possibility of losing contact with the outside world.
