Why is it important for you to Thrive at CA Technologies?

Category: Industry News

The Thrive at CA Technology group all showing thumbs up sign

We asked Senior Talent Acquisition Marketing Specialist at CA Technologies, Stuart Hazell why diversity and inclusion is important for him and throughout all levels of the organisation, and how CA Technologies is trying to encourage participation in creating an inclusive culture by involving everyone.

1. Why is diversity and inclusion important for CA Technologies?

From my perspective within Talent Acquisition Marketing, it’s crucial that our employer brand signifies the pride CA Technologies has in its inclusive culture, that’s why diversity underpins everything I do. I know first-hand its importance to the organisation through our drive to grow THRIVE, CA’s diversity and inclusive employee work stream. In terms of CA’s recruitment drive, we are continuously trying to attract diverse talent, which is why we have partnered with organisations like Vercida to showcase our inclusive culture. I’ve been privileged to have taken part in many THRIVE weeks at CA in the past where the organisation champions individuals and celebrates our inclusive culture, through themed activities and knowledge sharing. Ultimately, diversity is important to CA because diverse minds collaborating create better outcomes. Everything CA does is for its diverse customers, and, undeniably, it’s vital that those global partnerships need to be fulfilled with CA’s diverse talent in order to offer the best support and service possible.

2. How are you encouraging your whole organisation to get involved in creating an inclusive culture? And why is it important, in your opinion, that diversity is encouraged throughout all levels?

It is common knowledge around the organisation that there is a THRIVE community everyone has access to and can be a part of. This is set up by various Business Leaders and HR Diversity Advocates who discuss, debate and converse across various work streams that include the following pillars: Gender, Ethnicity, LGBTA (A = Allies), Generational, and Disability.

In terms of including employees, CA do fantastic work with volunteering in the local communities, particularly around our Create Tomorrow programme, which is designed to inspire and engage the next generation in STEM careers. We pride ourselves on those types of local relationships and one highlight for me personally was when we had local school children in to perform a Diwali show for our UKI employees which went down a treat. Initiatives such as Employee Appreciation Week are powerful at showcasing the inclusive culture that the organisation appreciates all that its employee do.

CA’s internal motto, is to “lead at all levels”. This is no different when it comes to leading diversity, and is why it’s invaluable that diversity is encouraged at all levels at CA. Making unconscious bias training mandatory at CA really shows how high a priority CA values its inclusive culture at all levels within the organisation.

3. How does CA showcase THRIVE and its diversity story?

CA’s biggest asset is its people and it’s been fantastic to have recently launched a global Brand Ambassador Training Program to enable and empower employees to share their #LifeAtCA story on social media. We also have diversity initiatives on our Careers Blog, with fantastic employee engagement. Recently we have showcased employees from the LGBT community for Pride Month, and how we support Working Mothers for International Women’s Day. We also urge employees to use the #ThriveAtCA hashtag when it comes to sharing posts, statuses or photos on social media around THRIVE. Internally the diversity story is told through a specific THRIVE section on our intranet where employees can find out about what the work streams are doing, and how they can get involved. You’ll also notice #BringWhatYouBring is our employer branding message, and this campaign underpins how diversity of people, thought, skills and expertise is crucial to CA’s success in creating an environment where employees can bring what they bring to CA Technologies.

4. What would be your best piece of advice for any other manager trying to do the same in their organisation?

If you are trying to raise awareness within an organisation, my three pieces of advice would be, firstly to get out of your comfort zone. Showcase hard facts to leadership that may surprise them and ask your employees what they would like to see from a support perspective. Secondly, find out from your customers what they want from a partner in terms of people. Finally, be active, which means being active yourself and rallying up your advocates internally who are passionate about making their organisation the most inclusive environment possible for their employees and ensure they are inspired to be active.

We love what CA Technologies have started with the #LifeAtCA, #ThriveAtCA and #BringWhatYouBring hashtags on social media, check out our favourite examples below – and make sure you keep sharing, CA employees!
