Strengths-based study provides invaluable insights for managers
Have you ever considered what makes your employees work to their full potential?
One school of thought is that using a 'strengths-based' approach when designing an employees job role, can significantly increase performance, job satisfaction and in turn, productivity!
This is certainly the philosophy at Strengths Partnership who have recently undertaken extensive research on workplace strengths using a sample of 47,000 employees. The study aims to uncover any patterns when it comes to employee strengths in the work place.
The report measures employee's strengths over 4 categories:
So what results did this survey yield? Here are some of the interesting findings from the research:
(Don't) mind the generation gap - The survey sample included 6,000 baby boomers and 11,000 millennials. They found that 'no meaningful generational differences were identified.' The differences between each generation are often vast, however, the factors that energize and motivate people proved too consistent over these generations.
'People' professionals and their fascinating profiles - Perhaps unsurprisingly, the most common strengths reported by those in the people professions (Human Resources and Learning and Development) were relationship building, detail orientation and compassion. Of course, these are essential traits of those in 'people' facing roles.
Industry-specific strengths - As you'd expect, profiles differed across different industries and roles. Finding out the strengths that an employee needs to be successful in a role is important to matching employees to fill these roles.
