I joined Barclays in Sept 2013, and I have had the good fortune of exploring myself in this organisation. I am part of the Axiom CoE Reporting space and I work with stakeholders from across the globe.
I can proudly say that Barclays has given me immense opportunities to grow as an individual. Being a woman in the tech space has been a long but beautiful journey with every single day bringing in new challenges and opportunities. I always did something I was not ready to do. I think that’s how you grow.
When I landed in Barclays in 2013, I got exposure to the banking domain working on a regulatory reporting project. It was an amazing journey as I got the opportunity to learn various tools and technologies and did a number of automations. I believe that when women take their success into their own hands, when they take ownership of their achievements, development and ambition, there is no limit to what they accomplish. A few of my achievements since joining Barclays include the "Woman Achiever of the Year" award, nomination in TechWomen50 Awards, Values Award and various Appreciation notes for my contribution in the technical space as well as the Citizenship space.
Each one of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service. I have always had that love for giving back to society and I have never given up a single chance from the day I joined Barclays. In a span of around 9 years, I have conducted more than 50 events with multiple NGOs and benefitted around 2000+ youngsters as the events were focused on Life Skills, Communication Skills, Career Guidance, Resume Writing and Interview preparation skills.
Within Barclays, I am also an active member of the Risk Finance Treasury and Functions People pillar whose motive is to make RFTF the best place for colleagues to work. I joined the Women in Network Pune Forum with Barclays in 2016 and then joined the Women In Technology Scotland Network where I have organised and contributed to a number of events for colleagues across the business. I am also a part of the Asian Professionals Resource Group Scotland which was formed recently to make colleagues aware of the amazing Asian culture.
The one piece of advice I would like to give my younger self is – 'nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood'!
I am Shilpi. This Is Me.
