“This is a culture of innovation – of trying new technologies and bringing fresh perspectives.”
Roshni Neogi
“MSCI is transforming – not just from a technological perspective, but also from a people and skillset perspective. In the 16 months I’ve been here, I’ve been at the forefront of this organizational change. And every week, I see an opportunity to make something better.”
Together, her teams of engineers and program managers are identifying, implementing, and improving workplace technologies that help our employees with their day-to-day work and enhance their productivity.
“Above all, our goal is to make the employee experience great. Because our customers are our colleagues, we can look around and see how people are feeling and working. We can see if the meeting is going well; if the tech is working; if everything’s running smoothly.”
This means Roshni and her team are constantly seeking feedback, gathering requirements from MSCI’s different businesses and focusing on continual improvement.
“If I speak to a leader from a different part of the business, they may not understand the tech jargon, and vice versa. But I’ve found that my ability to translate technical jargon into simple language has helped me to improve communication between teams, understand what’s needed, uncover opportunities and get buy-in. It’s an essential skill for organizational change.”
When it comes to transforming her own teams, Roshni is passionate about talent development and is committed to coaching future leaders and helping women in tech roles to succeed.
“I’m partnering with our Learning & Development teams to deliver the training the leaders in my team need, and I feel so proud when one of my team excels in a leadership role. I am also trying to bring more women into tech roles and encourage them to progress.”
Throughout her career, Roshni has seen and experienced many barriers facing women in technology. But she believes that there are things we can do – as individuals, as leaders, and as organizations – to support women’s career progression.
“As part of MSCI’s Women in Tech community, the advice I usually give is to get a mentor, to not be shy about asking questions and challenging any unacceptable behaviour. Voicing your thoughts, opinions and feelings about imposter syndrome and other barriers can really help your confidence. It took me many years to realise that I add a different perspective in most meetings that no one else thinks about – that I bring my own uniqueness – and that’s why I am where I am today."
