Star of the UK's first ever transgender sitcom, Rebecca Root, will host the inaugural Channel Islands Equality and Diversity Awards later this year. She's the first transgender person to play a transgender character in a mainstream sitcom and was named as one of the most influential LGBT people in 2016.The awards are being held in Jersey in September and aim to celebrate organisations and individuals who support equality and diversity. That includes race, gender, sexuality, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity/paternity, age or ability.
I'm delighted to be coming to Jersey to host this special evening. Recent events in LGBT communities around the world mean it is more important than ever to promote equality and acceptance for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning people everywhere.Hats off to Liberate for hosting such a brilliant evening and for its continued efforts on behalf of the LGBTIQ communities of the Channel Islands.
