Our apprenticeship scheme gives participants the chance to work in actual jobs that contribute towards genuine work targets in a particular area of our business. While on the scheme, apprentices benefit from gaining a formal NVQ qualification.
We're also a 'Living Wage employer' which means we pay our apprentices a minimum of £7.85 per hour - which is favourable in comparison with the UK's minimum apprentice hourly wage of £2.73.
But more than just money, our apprentice scheme gives people the opportunity to explore their desired career path and provides support as they discover who they are and what they want out of working life.
Isobel Anderson, 19, who joined Nationwide in September last year and works in Business Management said:
"I chose Nationwide over other apprenticeship schemes because I had heard great things about the opportunities and support available here. I didn't really know what I wanted to do so I wanted to join somewhere that would allow me to learn, develop and explore different opportunities to help me find my strengths.
"I would love for my career to progress within Nationwide. Once I have finished my apprenticeship I want to continue exploring opportunities to learn, develop and experience new things within my area, and also across other parts of the business."
Our HR director Ann Brown said: "We strongly believe by taking on more apprentices we are not only helping people start their careers but also improving our workforce by identifying, developing and retaining talented people from various backgrounds with fresh ideas.
"If you're interested in working for an organisation that is committed to doing the right thing and that will support and challenge you as you progress in your career then I would encourage you to become a Nationwide apprentice."
The apprentice programme is open to anyone over the age of 16, as well as those who are looking for something different and want to change career path.
