Celebrations and events took place around the firm to support this year’s International Women’s Day on the 8th March, which marks the economic, political and social achievements of women across the world.
The London office is hosted a panel debate on Monday 9 March which discussed and shared best practice on innovation and gender diversity. The panel included Kathryn Nawrockyi, Director at Opportunity Now; Claire Carless, General Counsel and Company Secretary at Siemens plc; Alison Kay, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary at National Grid plc; Sara Masters QC, 20 Essex Street and Lee Ranson, Managing Partner at Eversheds LLP.
Other activity included a women’s networking event involving staff and clients hosted by the Dubai team, afternoon tea in the Manchester office with Hazel Blears MP as guest speaker and fundraising events in Hong Kong and Singapore for 'Room to Read' an NGO which seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in Africa and Asia by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
Ian Gray, practice group head for litigation and dispute management and the SMT sponsor for gender commented:
“At Eversheds we believe in empowering staff to make the firm a diverse place to work, where talent is rewarded regardless of gender. In recent years we have been credited for our gender diversity programmes. We are the only law firm to be recognised by the Opportunity Now Excellence in Practice Awards, and have secured a place in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women for three years running. Whilst the legal sector is making huge strides to address historic gender imbalances, International Women’s Day gives us all the opportunity to appreciate women’s achievements but also address how further steps can be made."
