ITV has announced that it will deliver the first in-house legal apprenticeship under the new Trailblazer solicitor apprenticeship scheme, in partnership with CILEx Law School and City University London’s City Law School.
Blazing a trail for legal apprentices
ITV will employ the first apprentice in its London office. Alumni from the Legal Social Mobility Partnership (LSMP) programme founded by ITV will be given a ‘first look’ at this exciting new opportunity.
The LSMP promotes access to the legal profession to young people from less privileged backgrounds.
Andrew Garard, general counsel at ITV, said:
“We are delighted to be the first in-house legal department to embrace the new Solicitor Apprenticeship scheme.
“We see the new apprenticeship route as a great opportunity to create solicitors who know ITV’s business inside out at the point of qualification. This can only enhance our quest to make our lawyers true business partners.”
Radically changing environment of legal education
This apprenticeship scheme is the first initiative of a new agreement between CILEx Law School and The City Law School to deliver Trailblazer solicitor apprenticeships. Apprentices who successfully complete the five-year programme will be awarded City University London degrees.
“The Trailblazer Solicitor Apprenticeship offers an opportunity for a new generation of young people to qualify as solicitors from the security of salaried employment,” said Jenny Pelling, business director of CILEx Law School. “We look forward to working in close partnership with ITV to lead the way.”
Professor Carl Stychin, dean of The City Law School, is delighted with the new announcement and hopes that this will redefine how legal education in the UK is presented.
“This partnership combines the academic rigour of City University London’s LLB with the legal apprenticeship expertise of CILEx Law School.
“This venture demonstrates the School’s agility in creatively responding to the radically changing environment of legal education in this country. We look forward to working with our partners to deliver an excellent service to our clients at ITV.”
