Getting to Gold: How ISG is supporting the armed forces community

ISG’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant has now been recognised with the highest honour, a Gold award as part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).

The ERS encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same, and our team of armed forces champions catches up regularly with events which encourage networking and learning. They recently met during Armed Forces Week, from 19 - 24 June, to show their support and discuss what more we can do as a business to support the armed forces community.

"I have been inspired by the level of commitment shown by our people in supporting the armed forces, and hearing our own colleagues' stories provides great advocacy. Our Gold award is the culmination of this significant commitment and can only serve to enhance our work in the UK defence sector and further our ambitions to achieve sustained and impactful social outcomes."

Karen Booth, Chief Financial Officer, ISG

As part of our commitment, we provide employment opportunities for service leavers and their families, support for reservists and cadets, and are engaged with a number of armed forces charities including Blind Veterans UK. Ahead of the 2022 Warrior Games, we supported the charity in its efforts to ensure Ukrainian armed forces veterans could compete and represent their nation.

There is extra support available from ISG’s ‘More for you’ employee benefits package and we regularly attend insight and career events with BuildForce and Career Transition Partnership. Our champions also offer mentoring to support the transition from the armed forces into civilian life.

We love to share our champions’ stories, and our team recently attended the Inter Services Cadet Rifle Meeting (ISCRM), a national competition held at Bisley in July. Invited by Martin Roberts, Senior Technical Services Manager for ISG and National Shooting Officer for the Army Cadets, the event offered an insight into the opportunities for cadet leaders and how we can offer our support.
