After nearly 18 months with ONR, Haruhi Hata’s secondment from the Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) will shortly come to an end.
Originally from Tottori, a rural area, nestled between the Sea of Japan and the Chugoku Mountains, Haruhi joined us in March 2022 and since then has been working in our SDFW division, mainly with the Sellafield projects team.
During her secondment she has visited both operational and decommissioning sites including Sellafield, Trawsfynydd, Capenhurst, Heysham 2 and Hunterston A&B where she has been able to observe first-hand our enabling and goal setting approach to regulation.
Haruhi said: “I have really enjoyed my secondment with ONR and have learnt a great deal from it.
“It’s been my first time living away from Japan for a prolonged period, but I’ve had a great experience living in Liverpool and will take home lots of fond memories of the people and city, although it has been challenging at times getting to grips with the Liverpudlian accent!
“Since I joined ONR people have been so friendly and have helped me to settle in and become part of the team.”
“I am very pleased to have been seconded to ONR as part of the bilateral cooperation between ONR and NRA. I hope to continue to contribute to UK-Japan relations when I return to Japan.”
