QBE Insurance Group has been recognised as a top 200 company by Equileap in the 2018 Gender Equality Global Report and ranking.
This is the first year QBE has been included in the global ranking, based on data from over 3,000 public companies, across 23 countries.
“Being in the top 200 is a welcome recognition for our efforts towards achieving gender balance and equality in the workplace” Jenny Rich, HR Director, explained.
Gender equality in the workplace
The report and ranking assesses how good intentions in the corporate sector translate into action. It measures which companies are making a real difference in gender equality and shows that gender diverse companies tend to produce above average returns and have lower risks.
That assessment is based on a scorecard inspired by the UN’s Women’s Empowerment Principles. The scorecard currently includes 19 data clusters divided into four categories that measure the following:
gender balance in leadership, management and workforce,
equal compensation and work life balance,
company policies promoting gender equality; and
commitment to women’s empowerment, transparency and accountability.
Jenny Rich continued, “Empowering women and supporting gender equality is an essential element of how we build our workforce for the future, and it's important that we all lead by example and do what we can to progress our journey at QBE. Women currently make up 28% of our management population and we are aiming to increase this to 32% by 2020 in line with our Women in Finance charter commitments.”

Other headlines from the report were:
an overall improvement in performance amongst companies ranked in Equileap’s Global Top 200 in 2018 compared to 2017.
The top score in this year’s Gender Equality Global Report and Ranking is 71%, compared to 63% last year.
The data shows that the number of companies with policies in place to combat sexual harassment has increased, suggesting recent publicity and advocacy is having an impact.
