Law firm Eversheds has announced a trainee retention rate of 88% for 2014. A total of 51 out of the original 58 trainees will be staying on to pursue a career with the firm.
Eversheds’ training contract provides young lawyers with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to develop commercially-aware lawyers for the future. The firm offers four six-month seats in different areas of the business, as well as client and international secondments.
At the same time, Eversheds has announced that it has signed up to a new initiative alongside the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, Department of Education, and a number of UK law firms and in-house teams, to spearhead a new initiative that will shape the apprenticeship route into law.
The proposed Trailblazer standards will allow apprentices to qualify as a solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or paralegal, whilst working within participating employers. The standards meet the requirements specified by ILEX Professional Standards Limited (IPS) and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive or Solicitor.
Moira Slape, HR Director at Eversheds commented:
“Congratulations to all our newly qualified lawyers, who have shown great resource and initiative during their training contracts. As a firm, we focus heavily on the training and development of our lawyers to ensure they have the well rounded commercial acumen required in the modern legal world. We wish all our qualifying trainees every success in their careers at the firm.
“At the same time, we are very proud to be a part of the Trailblazer apprenticeship scheme, which heralds a new era in solicitor training and will play an integral part in diversifying the legal profession.”
