DVLA Becomes a Member of the Employers for Carers

 DVLA has become the first member of the Wales Hub of Employers for Carers, a membership programme aimed at creating carer-friendly workplaces.

Backed by Welsh Government, the Wales Hub of Employers for Carers delivers hands-on advice to employers on how to support the estimated 1 in 9 of their workforce who are carers in Wales, many of whom struggle to combine work with caring for friends or family members who are ill, frail or have a disability.

Louise White, HR and Estates Director, said:

“DVLA launched a carers’ network at the start of 2017. Before we set up the network, we wrote out to the organisation to gauge interest, there was an unprecedented response, with hundreds of positive replies.

“We’ve introduced the carers network with regular coffee mornings and lunchtime drop in sessions where colleagues could come together and share information and gain practical support from the carers’ network team. 

“DVLA has joined ‘Employers for Carers’ to support us in expanding support of carers in the workplace even further. Feedback from carers on what we have introduced so far is very positive and the business has benefitted through measurable increased productivity and reduced absenteeism. We anticipate the benefits to far outstrip any investment cost and we’re looking forward to working with Carers Wales”.
