BEH and C&I are introducing new measures in our recruitment process to ensure that interviews are fair for people from all backgrounds and to address the chronic under-representation of black and minority ethnic staff in senior roles in the NHS.
One of the ways some trusts are successfully addressing this is to ensure a BME staff member - an Equality Champion - is included on interview panels for posts band 6 and above.
By becoming an Equality Champion, you will be provided with a complete training session on how to conduct interview and selection processes and you will have the opportunity to participate in interviews on a regular basis.
Our Equality Champions have already supported in progressing this initiative in 2018 where we saw an increase of 4% in our BME staff at band 8a and above and we now want to really push this and see an even bigger impact at band 6 and above.
