Black History Month at Gumtree & Motors

At Gumtree, October has been a month of rich storytelling, learning, laughter, and community for us. And we can’t forget the mouth-watering food! All thanks to our amazing Black History Month project team.

We’re striving to foster a culture of belonging and empowerment, a place where everyone can be celebrated for who they are, so we’re hugely thankful to our volunteers - Angela Benjamin-Mills, Efe Oniovosa, Doreen B., Tricia Dlamini and Dom Bradbury - for creating meaningful moments for us this Black History Month.

Talking about the activities, project leader Angela Benjamin-Mills says: "This October, as a Black History Month team, we wanted to create an experience for our colleagues to learn about and explore different cultures, using their senses. We organised decorations to transform our office, comedy, food, games and lots of opportunities to share stories. It’s been a great experience sharing and celebrating what makes us unique.”

Efe Oniovosa adds: “A highlight for me was the 'guess the inventor' game each week. It's been a delightful and educational experience that shed light on the remarkable Black contributions to science, technology, and daily life. I’ve loved discovering these often-unsung inventors. Also, our weekly snack treats introduced a world of flavours and stories.”
