A special recording of the classic New Year’s poem ‘Auld Lang Syne’ showcases the diversity within the BBC’s radio services and celebrates the New Year.
The video aims to represent the wide breadth of voices that present across the BBC’s non-visual output and the diversity of those that tune in. It features various accents and languages and includes contributions from some of the corporation’s best loved local and national radio presenters.
The voices include presenters from the BBC’s UK language services- BBC Alba and BBC Cymru (Cathy MacDonald and Aled Hughes) its Nations teams- BBC Scotland, BBC Wales and BBC Northern Ireland (Bryan Burnett, Eleri Sion and Kerry McLean) its English Regions services- BBC Newcastle, BBC York and BBC West Midlands (Alfie Joey, Richard Stead and Adrian Goldberg) and the World Service Group- BBC Hindi, BBC Arabic and BBC Chinese Service (Neha Bhatnagar, Adel Soliman and Howard Zhang).
National presenters including Radio 1xtra’s A Dot and Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme host John Humphrys have also taken part in the recording.
“The BBC is proud to be able to serve and represent such a wide and diverse audience. New Year is traditionally a time when people come together to celebrate and this video seemed a perfect way to do that”. – BBC Director of Nations and Regions, Ken MacQuarrie
The beeb’s radio services reach over 150million people in the UK and around the world each year and this recording only represents a small proportion of the various radio services that the BBC provides.
