Job description
Location: Huizen, Netherlands
About the teamThe Bids and Projects department consists of three teams: bid managers, project managers and the project management office. All three teams report to the Director Bids and Projects (B&P). The B&P department has approximately 35 people, of which 19 are project managers. Your colleagues have a diverse range of competences, leadership styles and professional experience. Within a solid framework of project management processes and practices, each project manager is expected to develop an own style, thereby balancing engaging with external stakeholders and coordinating various disciplines (work packages) internally. Each project manager is part of a Customer Account Team (CAT); he/she works closely together with sales managers, bid managers and technical leads to optimally serve our customers.
About your future jobAs Project Manager for our domestic customer (the
Netherlands Ministry of Defense), you are responsible to deliver
military communication solutions to this customer, within the context of a wider program. This means there are multiple projects running, with separate timelines and scope, but they are very much related. You therefor report to the Program Manager on a day-to-day basis. As project manager, you set up the (first) project management baseline during the bidding phase for a new project. You facilitate a smooth transition of the contract from bid- to project phase. You are responsible to realize the project within its contractual obligations (budget, schedule, quality) and secure customer satisfaction. You are the primary interface between the customer, usually a project manager too, and the Thales organization.
Your main tasks are:
- build, lead and facilitate the project team; engage a variety of stakeholders for the benefit of your project;
- implement solid work package management, enabling work package managers to take ownership of their part of the project and support them in keeping track of budget and schedule;
- optimize the cooperation and interaction between work packages, in order to ensure timely delivery and manage dependencies;
- build a relationship with and understand expectations of the customer, and capture additional work when opportunities arise;
- enable a controlled and predictable execution of the project, conduct project reviews and evaluations and report project status to senior management;
- pro-actively manage risks and opportunities;
- identify and implement improvements to increase efficiency (for your project and/or the organization).
Although working for the domestic customer, you will operate in an international and cross-cultural context. Your direct colleagues have diverse backgrounds, your stakeholders are located throughout the Thales Group, and the prime contractors/sub-contractors we partner with to deliver the best solution to the Dutch customer usually act globally.
This job gives you the opportunity to further develop your project management and leadership skills, enabling you to manage larger and more complex projects in the further. If not certified yet, the experience that you gain in this job will definitely qualify you for IPMA certification.
Why you'd be a good match- you have a relevant college/university degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant working experience (project management);
- you have excellent communication- and language skills (Dutch and English required, French is a plus);
- you have a profound interest in high tech, security and defense;
- you are familiar with an engineering/technical environment and are able to get up to speed very quickly with(in) the Thales organization, our solutions and our customers. You are curious, see opportunities and deal well with complexity (think big);
- you bring structure and clarity, set goals and are result-driven; you keep the overview at all times, are proactive and able to overcome challenges (make it happen)
- you work comfortably in a multidisciplinary, international and cross-cultural team and easily collaborate with a variety of stakeholders at operational, tactical and strategic level (together);
- IPMA C/B certification is a plus.
- You have the Dutch nationality. A security screening by the NL Government is part of the selection.
What's in it for you - A challenging job in a great team within our high-tech, innovative work environment. Includes the freedom for initiative and good ideas.
- Room for personal and professional growth within our organisation, for example in regards to technical, commercial or international skills.
- Valuable international collaboration with coworkers from 68 different countries around the globe.
- A comfortable work space in a modern environment, with a focus on flexibility and the right work life balance.
- You can usually work where and whenever you want. Within Thales, we aim for a 60/40 balance, where you work from home at least two days a week, when your role allows this.
- A good salary, fitting travel allowance, and the ability to personalise your employment conditions: for instance, you can trade PTO for internet costs, our bicycle plan, company fitness and relocation costs.
- 40 days off per year (PTO). Yes, really.
