Director Bid & Projects

About the team
We are an engineering company with 80.000 colleagues all over the world. For almost a century we design, build and maintain mission critical information systems for defense, space, aerospace, transport and communications. In these critical areas and current times you can't afford to fail so we always deliver. Whatever it takes.

At Thales Huizen, we deliver cutting-edge, dependable network and security solutions worldwide under the name SOTAS. Our systems guarantee optimal communication, regardless of extreme conditions (-49°C to +59°C), enabling informed decision-making. With a leading position in mobile network communication for defense and civil applications, our team of 250 professionals is dedicated to existing and emerging markets.

In addition to SOTAS, we collaborate with other business units and product lines. Each presents exciting and complex opportunities. And all contribute to the safety of humanity in the broadest sense of the word

At Country Business Unit SIX-NL, we're experiencing significant growth due to the several changes within the world. We therefor see an expansion of our SOTAS product family, resulting in diverse projects ranging from small deliveries to large-scale developments. Additionally, we're at a pivotal phase of a major project with the Dutch Ministry of Defense on site security, our most challenging contract. This presents an exciting opportunity for us to think big, collaborate, and drive success together. As per the Thales slogan: TMT: Think big, Make it happen, Together

Our bids and projects department, comprising 30 employees, is at the heart of this growth, with the bid team and PMO (Project Management Office) expanding. The Manager Bids and Manager PMO support creating a dynamic learning environment, fostering continuous improvement and effective project management. We're advancing towards data-driven monitoring and control, with defined processes, tools, and dashboards. Our focus is on optimizing the PMO's role and team structure to ensure success in the months ahead.

The role of Director Bid & Projects is pivotal as we navigate through larger and more complex projects, coupled with new product developments. Building robust project teams and establishing solid project baselines are imperative. Both engineering and supply chain face significant challenges, requiring seamless collaboration to ensure timely and compliant deliveries. As Director, you will serve as a bridge-builder between departments and teams, fostering cooperation within SIX-NL and across Business Lines and Global Business Units. You will have a keen eye for people development and possess deep expertise in project management. Reporting directly to the VP of SIX-NL, you will contribute to defining divisional strategy and leadership needs. Your responsibilities will include meeting clients globally, chairing project reviews, strategizing bids, and supporting team members' personal and project development. Additionally, you will engage your team, address organizational barriers, and drive improvement and ownership. If you're passionate about people development and project management, we invite you to join us and make an impact.

About you

We are seeking a colleague who possesses:
  • Experience in project management (IMPA) and several years of managerial expertise within a commercial setting.

  • Familiarity with governmental and semi-governmental contexts.
  • Ability to foster trust among teams and enhance collaboration across all departments and with counterparts Business Line and Corporate Level.
  • Cultural sensitivity and proficiency in English (reading and writing), with an understanding of diverse cultures.

Your competencies and ambition

After completing a Higher Professional Education program, you have gained valuable experience working collaboratively with employers, encountering both successes and setbacks.

You have embarked on new endeavors and navigated through routine tasks, discovering your strengths and passions along the way. This journey has been one of personal growth, resulting in increased self-awareness, resilience, and confidence. Now, you are poised for the next step in your career, driven by ambition and eager to leverage your talents to inspire and empower others. You are ready to embrace challenging opportunities, both rewarding and demanding, alongside our team members. Your leadership will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of 'Think Big, Make it Happen Together,' driving organizational growth and success.

Do you also meet the following criteria:

Our extensive list of competencies, preferences, and requirements is in perfect harmony with the ethos of our vibrant, inclusive, and close-knit organization. Despite being a part of a larger international entity, we pride ourselves on our small, familial environment. Here, you'll find a wealth of technological, organizational, and marketing opportunities, along with their corresponding challenges. If you believe you embody this profile, we encourage you to seize the moment and submit your application without delay!
