The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia
On 17th May many of our Siemens UK sites set up stalls for IDAHOBIT, as well as permanently raising the pride flag at their sites.
With the recent news that the UK has slipped from 14th to 17th place in Rainbow Europe's list of safe LGBT countries (having previously been in 1st place only 9 years ago), it's now more important than ever to get involved in taking a stand against homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. Thank you so much to everyone who has organized and taken part.

A word from Ben Armes, Diversity, Inclusion & Community Manager:
“As a trans man, I have truly been able to be myself at Siemens. I have not only been accepted but embraced too. If we do not have to hide who we are, we can absolutely excel. After starting my journey here as a Complaints Handler, I have had a wonderful and progressive five years simply because I can be me without fear.”
We are very proud supporters of Pride events in the UK. We attend many of them throughout the season. From Bournemouth to London and all the way up to Newcastle and Lincoln. Organised and led by our LGBTQIA+ Network, SPARK. It is a wonderful opportunity to let the community know that Siemens is a great place to work and we are truly inclusive. Pride is still a protest and we want to show our solidarity and support.
Recently, we launched a Transitioning at work policy because we want our colleagues to feel confident to be themselves at work. Only with a truly diverse organisation, including differing opinions, ideas and thinking, will we be able to bring ingenuity. Transgender and gender variant people bring a new perspective to our organisation and we value their contribution.
Allyship is a strong theme for us, it is powerful when we all stand shoulder to shoulder. We wanted to ensure we gave colleagues the information and courage to step in if they saw homophobia, biphobia and transphobia taking place. So, we produced an informative Allyship Guide to support the LGBTQIA+ community. Lots of colleagues have always wanted to be an Ally but may have been a little nervous about saying the wrong thing. This acted as a terminology buster and it is packed full of top tips what Allies are, what they do and how to do it effectively.
Colleagues started to ask for support on how to get pronouns right, so we created a short guide explaining how they work, why they are important and how to get it right. We also explored what the impact of getting it wrong can lead to for the individual.
