EDI Forum at RSSB
Our mission at RSSB is to create a workplace that celebrates the diversity of our colleagues, members, and other stakeholders. And by allowing our people, regardless of their identity or background, to have a voice, be heard, and make a difference, we're building a more inclusive culture for all.
Achieving true equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) means striving to create an environment where our people feel they belong, know they can bring their whole selves to work, and can do their best work every day. We know, after all, that a diverse, happy workforce drives innovation. That's one of the reasons we're committed to building one. By leveraging our people's diverse perspectives, we can deliver a better, safer railway for everyone—while also creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for our own colleagues. There's already been a lot of progress towards this goal. But there's still work to do. Explore the sections below to see where we're coming from, where we're going, and how you can get involved.
Our mission at RSSB is to create a workplace that celebrates the diversity of our colleagues, members, and other stakeholders. And by allowing our people, regardless of their identity or background, to have a voice, be heard, and make a difference, we're building a more inclusive culture for all. At RSSB, our EDI Forum is in the process of setting out a strategy to guide RSSB on its way to achieving the goals outlined above.
Our Progress so Far:
Although we have a lot of work ahead of us, it's important to capture and acknowledge all the progress we've already made in the EDI space. Here are a few things we're particularly proud of:
- We've added a variety of EDI content to our Learning Portal including courses on bias, cultural awareness, and inclusive leadership.
- We've achieved bronze, silver, and gold accreditation with The Clear Company.
- We've run a reverse mentoring programme to challenge our thinking and help our colleagues learn from each other.
- We've supported RSSB's LGBTQ+ Alliance, which runs to this day and ensures RSSB's slot at London's annual Pride event. (You can contact Lucy Powell or Tom Hyatt to get involved!)
- We've raised awareness on matters of EDI through various other channels, including 'This Is My Story' slots at our annual all staff conference, Facts & Snacks sessions, news articles, and more. Colleagues are opening up, helping us all become more aware and inclusive.
- Women at RSSB - Our work with Women in Rail continues and we encourage continuous professional development for all our employees. Our employees continue to participate in the Women in Rail (WR) mentoring programme both as mentors and mentees.
