1. Introduction

VERCIDA exists to connect jobseekers with employers who are building genuinely inclusive workplaces. We are committed to ensuring this website is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of disability, impairment, or the technology used to access it.

We have designed this site to conform to Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 is the internationally recognised benchmark for accessible web design.

For further information on WCAG 2.2, visit the W3C WCAG 2.2 overview.

2. Compliance Status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partial conformance means that some content does not fully conform to the standard. Known limitations are described in Section 8 below.

We are actively working to resolve outstanding issues and will update this statement as improvements are made.

3. Technical Specification

This website relies on the following technologies for conformance with the accessibility standard:

  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • JavaScript (used to enhance functionality; the site degrades gracefully where JavaScript is unavailable or blocked)
  • WAI-ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes

The site has been tested against current versions of the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome (latest)
  • Mozilla Firefox (latest)
  • Microsoft Edge (latest)
  • Safari (latest, macOS and iOS)

Note: Internet Explorer is no longer supported, in line with Microsoft's retirement of IE in June 2022.

4. Assistive Technology Compatibility

The following assistive technologies have been tested for compatibility with this website, except in areas noted under Known Limitations:

  • JAWS 2026 (Freedom Scientific) — Screen Reader
  • NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access, latest release) — Free, open-source screen reader for Windows
  • VoiceOver (built into macOS and iOS) — Screen Reader
  • TalkBack (built into Android) — Screen Reader
  • Dragon Professional 16 (Nuance/Microsoft) — Voice dictation and control
  • ZoomText 2026 (Freedom Scientific) — Screen magnification
  • Fusion 2026 (Freedom Scientific) — Combined magnification and screen reader

Note: You may experience issues with older versions of these applications. If you encounter any problems, please contact us using the details in Section 9.

5. Navigation

  • Navigation is logical, consistent, and keyboard-accessible throughout
  • A skip-to-main-content link is provided at the top of every page
  • Links are descriptive and can be understood out of context
  • Links and interactive elements are highlighted on keyboard focus
  • The site logo links to the home page on every page

6. Content

Text

  • Text is set in a large, readable font with sufficient line spacing
  • Content uses plain English and avoids unnecessary jargon
  • Headings follow a logical, hierarchical structure
  • Text size can be adjusted using browser settings

Images

  • All meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text
  • Decorative images use null alternative text (alt="") so they are ignored by screen readers

Colour and layout

  • Text and background colours meet the WCAG 2.2 minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1
  • Colour is not used as the sole means of conveying information
  • Page layout is consistent and does not rely on visual positioning alone
  • The site is responsive and usable on mobile devices and small screens

Forms

  • All form fields have clearly visible labels and accessible names
  • Error messages are descriptive and identify the field requiring correction
  • Forms include accessible validation and feedback

Tables

  • Tables are used for data, not for page layout
  • All data tables include appropriate headers, captions, and summaries

Multimedia

  • Audio and video content does not play automatically
  • Transcripts are available on request for video and audio content — contact us if you require one

7. Built-in Accessibility Tools

ReciteMe
We have integrated the ReciteMe accessibility toolbar on every page. ReciteMe provides:

  • Text-to-speech in multiple languages
  • Screen magnification
  • Customisable font, colour, and contrast settings
  • Dyslexia-friendly fonts
  • Translation into 100+ languages

The ReciteMe toolbar is located at the top of every page.

Google Translate
A Google Translate tool is provided to assist users who prefer to read content in a language other than English. Please note that automated translation may not always be fully accurate.

8. Known Limitations and Accessibility Issues

The following known limitations exist on this site. We are working to address them:

  • Google Translate plugin: the third-party Google Translate widget may not be fully accessible to all assistive technologies. We have no control over Google's code.
  • Google Maps plugin: embedded maps may present challenges for keyboard and screen reader users. Where maps are used, we provide a text-based address alternative.
  • Manually updated content: some downloadable documents (such as PDFs) or employer-uploaded content may not meet full accessibility standards. We review and improve these on an ongoing basis.
  • Video and audio transcripts: transcripts are available on request rather than displayed by default. We aim to improve this in a future release.

VERCIDA does not assume responsibility for the accessibility of third-party applications or websites linked from this site.

9. Feedback and Contact

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you experience any barriers or need content in an alternative format (such as plain text, large print, or braille), please contact us:

We aim to respond to accessibility requests within 5 working days.
