Disability Support at Sainsbury's

This International Men's Day, we brought our colleagues together for an open conversation about men's mental health, the importance of speaking up, and how each of us can help create a more supportive environment.
Together with Andy's Man Club, we explored the realities of men's mental health, breaking down stigma, sharing lived experiences, and highlighting the power of conversation.
The session was hosted by Iain Semple, Regional Stores Director at Sainsbury's, who sat down with Luke Ambler, Co-founder of Andy's Man Club, to discuss the story behind the organisation, why talking saves lives, and how everyone can play a part in supporting men.
Key takeaways:
- be present and non- judgemental-sharing your own vulnerabilities can help others feel safe to open up
- use gentle encouragement and subtle support — leave resources (like Andy's Man Club leaflets or wristbands) in visible places
- foster connection and community - men's circles and peer support are powerful; being part of a group where everyone is equal can break down barriers
- practice and promote self-compassion - encourage positive self-talk and gratitude, focus on what's good in life, not just the negatives
"Hope is that tomorrow can be better than today. If you're not where you want to be, you're just not there yet; the story isn't over."
