Lloyd's Brussels (LB) is a newly established company that plays an important part of Lloyd's European Market Access strategy for both the insurance and reinsurance business in the EU/EEA.

It allows Lloyd's to remain actively engaged with the market and ensure that Lloyd's Brussels is an effective solution for the market to carry on business without interruption when the UK leaves the EU.

The strategy of Performance Management is to protect Lloyd's Brussels by ensuring peer-leading performance through the application across the Market of strong performance management and risk management underpinned by appropriate capital setting
The Role
The LB Underwriting Portfolio Analyst will provide support to the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) in all matters relating to Open Market Underwriting, including Oversight of Outsourced Open Market Underwriting. The role will also support the LB CUO in positioning the Underwriting Function at the heart of LB.
What Will You Do?
  • To support the Lloyd's Brussles CUO in steering the underwriting activity
  • To monitor the Company's Open Market underwriting performance and results, including the oversight of product development
  • To manage the production of all Underwriting Oversight reports, including co-ordination of input from: Exposure management, Delegated Authority, Claims and Business Plan monitoring
  • To support the running of and reporting to the LB Underwriting Committee
  • To assist with the annual Business Planning process and LB Plan production: analysis of business plans and support on preparation of papers for the Capital Planning Group; ad hoc analysis work on business plans and performance.
  • To work with, and develop effective working arrangements with, outsource service providers
  • To be considered a key contact for LB Underwriting in the European and London Insurance Market and the Lloyd's Corporation
  • To work with the LB Compliance manager to ensure that Underwriting is compliant with regulations and LB controls
  • To assist the LB CUO with market education and promotion of best practice, including:
  • Market Town Hall
  • Other external events and newsletters
    • To be able to handle underwriting queries on a day to day basis
    • To be able to lead the timely submission of underwriting and claims metrics, MI and KPI data
    • To be able to co-ordinate underwriting and claims metric, MI and KPI data to form the CUO pack for the LB Underwriting Committee and other governance arrangements as required
    • Demonstrate awareness of the responsibilities of the role
    • Provide strategic risk management in relation to ease of business related activities and centralised functions, including those within the Corporation of Lloyd's
    • Responsible for reporting internally with regards to oversight of outsourced managing agents and any possible breach by Managing Agents against Lloyd's Minimum Standards
    • Manage the budget planning process and control expenditure within budget

What You'll Need
  • Experience in an underwriting role or in underwriting projects
  • Understanding and interpreting (re)insurance underwriting, its pricing, profitability, capital needs, measurement and control
  • Commercial strategic awareness in the context of business development and oversight and control
  • Risk and portfolio management skills, including experience with compliance; a proven ability to interpret and apply of regulatory requirements
  • The articulation, documentation, communication, and application of underwriting policies, controls, standards and guidelines
  • European regulatory requirement including the application of Solvency II and the application of standards and guidelines and the approach businesses take to comply with these
  • Related to Solvency II, a well-developed knowledge of the capital needs and the associated risks of assuming and transferring (re)insurance risk
  • Excellent skills in Excel
  • The ability to work within an organisation with matrix features and across multiple geographies and locations

Professional Qualification

  • Relevant professional designations include: Insurance industry qualifications equivalent to, in the UK, ACII / FCII / Chartered Insurer.
