About Network Rail

The South East route is the busiest and most congested in the country, connecting the capital and its southern and south eastern suburbs with Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Europe. Around 5,000 passenger trains run everyday over almost 2,000 miles of track.

This is both an exciting and unique prospect to work at a key London depot where you will have the opportunity to help develop and shape the workplace and how it is run.

Working in all weathers on the frontline, youll carry out everything from maintenance to faulting. Whats more, youll develop your management skills by deputising for the Team Leader About the role (External)
In this key post, youll support a Team Leader to organise and motivate a specialist Infrastructure Maintenance team. Well look to you to make sure work is carried out safely, efficiently and in line with exacting standards. Youll personally carry out all kinds of work from maintenance and renewal through to inspection and faulting.

Whats more, youll act as Team Leader when the job demands it. This will see you establishing safety arrangements, controlling and checking quality of work, making sure staff have the appropriate competencies for the task at hand, and ensuring vehicles, plant, equipment, tools and material are fit for purpose. Its a crucial frontline role, which calls for a resilient approach. Working on a shift basis, youll maintain the same high standards at all times of day, in even the toughest weather conditions.

Essential Criteria

Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work
Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work
Strong communication skills, both in person and in writing
Knowledge of discipline-specific maintenance, inspection, faulting and renewal techniques
Willing and able to work shifts in all weathers
Meet the required benchmark for application screening questions
Must meet required online testing benchmark

Desirable Criteria

Hold or be working towards an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience
Able to lead, motivate and direct a team
Willing and able to drive vehicles

This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.

At London Bridge, your contractual agreement will offer you personal security with a variety of benefits. In addition to your baseline salary this location attracts substantial location driven allowances which relate to the Delivery Unit that you will be working with.
Salary: 24,858 (entry level)
Inner London locations (within the M25)- Inner London Allowance 2325, Central London Supplement 900, Direct Labour Allowance 800, Maintenance Allowance 200 (Total- 4225)
Recognising that travel into London is an expense, Network Rail employees are entitled to a generous annual 75% subsidy on season tickets costing up to 3000 (to a maximum amount of 2,250) to support your financial needs.
Your annual leave entitlement after 12 months continuous service will be 25 working days, in addition to the standard 8 bank and other public UK holidays (subject to non-requirement to work).
