BBC Sounds (Mobile App) is an integral part of delivering on our strategy for an industry leading Digital audio experience; creating a platform for serving distinctive, world class content and services to a younger portion of our worldwide audience.
Our teams are responsible for creating and maintaining BBC mobile applications for Sounds on Android and iOS devices, we are tasked to create compelling and increasingly personalised experiences that our audiences love.
We are responsible for key audience functionality such as integration with playback, download and user data components along with delivering exciting personalising features that tailor our experience based on the users preferences. Using bespoke agile engineering & test practices, we encourage and cultivate improvement, at both team and personal level. Our department is based in Dock House at MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester. Our team is composed of Software Engineers, Testers, Product and Delivery disciplines working in a collaborative environment.
Role Responsibility We are looking for a SEIT (Software Engineer in Test) to work on automated test activities and building testability into the product. The candidate must have the ability and enthusiasm to collaborate within a multi discipline team as well as liaise with internal and external dependencies; they should also have the ability to assess their implementation using exploratory methods.

Development is within an agile environment involving a lot of change and reactionary development, the whole team is involved at all stages of feature or improvement work, other teams within this department include BBC iPlayer Mobile and there is scope for working closely and pairing on tasks with them to solve common problems.
The successful candidate will
Have experience setting up and automation framework and populating this with stable tests.
Have a proactive approach and be able to collaborate and influence well, ensuring you are responsive to feedback from the team.
Alongside other members of the team, define and implement a strategy (particularly related technical testing but not limited to this).
Be passionate about improving the quality of our products through building in testability and building tools to support the test approach.
Enjoy experimenting, investing in monitoring and data driven reporting to the wider team in order to drive improvement.
Mentoring less experienced team members to encourage adoption of test automation and support their growth.
Are you the right candidate?
Experience of developing, executing and maintaining both automated and manual tests.
Experience with a Continuous Integration environment, preferably Jenkins.
Good understanding of technologies used in app development and practical knowledge of source control tooling (e.g: GitHub).
Experience in an Agile workplace and working knowledge of BDD, particularly the ability to collaborate and communicate to varied stakeholders and influence decision making.
Experience in advanced testing environments that use exploratory testing, test plans, strategies and preferably mobile app release experience.
Able to work autonomously to create tasks that need to be done but also work collaboratively to define and implement them.
Experience building dashboards.
Experience of using Network Traffic Monitoring tools (eg: Wireshark or Charles).
Performance, load or security testing experience an advantage.
Api testing experience also an advantage, especially if this involves contract testing.
Experience with Multivariate Testing (MVT) is desirable
