Salary: £26,120 - £34,500 depending on skills and experience

About the Department
Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role?
As Shift Operator, you'll operate engines and auxiliary plant under the direction and supervision of the Shift Supervisor ensuring safe and efficient operation of plant and equipment in accordance with company safety standards, relevant company procedures and local arrangements to deliver a continuous supply to the Shetland Grid. The Lerwick Power Plant includes 9 diesel engines ranging from 3.5 to 12.75 MW, 2 x 5 MW Gas Turbines, a 2.1 MW rated stream turbine and all associated auxiliaries and systems including sections of the Gremista 11kV Switchroom and 33kV substation.
In addition to the above, you'll synchronise generators and identify where practicable repair defects on shift and carry out maintenance duties on spare day shifts.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you'll have knowledge of all generating and auxiliary plant elements and a good understanding of various site environmental limits. An ability to carry out basic fault finding and to be able to recognise plant and system issues is key. You'll have an understanding of SSE's company environmental targets and an ability to work within the safety rules.
