Packet networks engineering is part of engineering vertical that is responsible to architect, validate, deploy and scale Colt's global packet networks. Packet engineering is a talented and close-knit group that will builds networks and services using industry leading SDN and NFV technologies. The team's culture is built with a business mindset to help Colt win in the marketplace. Packet engineers are focused every day to redefine how our customers build, consume and manage their network connectivity services.

Colt is looking for a dynamic Senior Engineering Manager for the Architecture & Design workstream in Packet Networks Engineering . The role involves leading, coaching and inspiring a team of highly skilled network architects and design engineers. As an engineering leader your contributions will be the most highly visible in the organization. You will craft a meaningful vision for the team, bring a strong technical background and team management experience. As a well-rounded engineering leader, you should be the type that appreciates diversity and relishes challenges outside of your comfort level. You will be touching some of the cutting-edge network technologies along with systems automation to build network fabrics across the globe. You are expected to come armed with well-developed problem-solving skills. You should be willing to take risks and adapt new technologies even before they reach connectivity markets. We are looking for someone who can very effectively communicate with team members, customers, peers, partners, suppliers and highest management layers.

Key accountabilities

Network and Platforms architecture workstream is part of packet engineering that is focussed on bringing agility in network evolution, creating high quality design and cost efficient architectures.
  • Lead a team of highly talented network engineers towards the engineering vision and strategy.
  • Drive Colt's culture which demands to hold the values and behaviours to highest standards to empower an open and diverse workplace. Strive to build an environment fostering collaboration and inclusion to drive innovation, technology direction and evolving the engineering tribe.
  • Lead, craft and manage the medium term to long term strategic transformation plans with engineering leaders.
  • Communicate with a strong ownership, be customer champion in enabling business outcomes for internal customers by building relationships with peers and stakeholders.
  • Champion to develop and deliver network efficiencies by embracing data driven decisions, network automation, SDx, cloud native paradigm shifts and ML/AI for packet networks and engineering practices.
  • Own Colt's packet network technology roadmap and engineering strategy. Work with stakeholders to prioritize the roadmap, always staying focused for laser sharp execution and ruthless reduction of friction.
  • Accountable for network design outcomes in technology introduction and service development projects on IP, Ethernet, Capital markets and SD-WAN/uCPE portfolio.
  • Responsible for network efficiencies by gaining thorough understanding of underlying unit economics, producing financial models for network and conducting analysis of technology market pricing.
  • Lead and influence vendor/partner community by regular business reviews, roadmap direction, demonstrating the partnership and co-lead industry innovations. Actively participate and represent Colt in technical forums, public events, standards organizations etc.


Role specific requirements

Skills and Experience

  • 14+ years of overall experience in large scale network service providers or cloud / DC operators or network products environment with proven track record in one or more domains like network infrastructure design, network engineering and planning, network product/service development.
  • 10+ years of strong leadership experience in managing and collaborating with global distributed teams. Good track record with ability to develop and energise matrix or virtual teams comprising of high skilled engineers.
  • 5+ years of sound network technology background experience on progressively complex IP and Ethernet features /protocols. Experience on service provider network hardware and software like Cisco, Juniper, Nokia and Ciena etc. Experience on SDN, NFV and cloud technologies would be a big plus.
  • Experience working in a high-growth environment, recruiting extraordinary people from different and diverse backgrounds. Leading by example, by setting the right context, and by helping others do their best work.
  • Proven ability to create detailed business cases demonstrating through understanding of the problem, solution, market, and economics
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, that accompanies excellent organizational skills. Exceptional presentation skills, being able to both create quality content with document or slides and delivering it.
  • Ability to grasp cutting edge network technologies considering common network designs and best practices found in large scale service provider, data centre, and cloud networks.
  • Passionate about driving decisions with data. Experience in creating financial models to understand the economics of network technologies and connectivity products.
  • Create innovative solutions using automation to replace manual process and the mindset to automate everything if possible, all the time.
  • Ability to gather, screen, interpret and challenge a wide variety of detailed information yet remain focused on the 'big picture'. Strong presentation skills with ability to engage and translate message to audience.
  • Strong operational and program management experience, including designing and operating programs, budget management, analysis and modelling, and translating data and analytics into insights. Proven experience in prioritizing development activities and producing continual internal process improvements.
  • Flexible approach and an ability to operate effectively with uncertainty and change, operates effectively in a highly complex matrix organisation.
  • Never afraid to question notions or norms or existing beliefs of how things should be done.
  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate and develop consensus with stakeholders.


Qualifications

  • Graduate in Engineering - Computers / Electronics / Communication or related field, or Graduate / Postgraduate in Science / Maths / IT / Computers or related streams with relevant technology experience.

  • Higher education, business management qualifications and industry certifications in relevant areas will be a plus.

  • Introduction of Colt's technology platforms as part of the product and technology development roadmap on time, quality and within budget.

  • Delivering network architecture and platform strategy plans and documentation.

  • Drive efficiencies through the implementation of new technologies, suppliers and architectures and network automation to achieve the target on network efficiency and network cost models.


Relationships and key contacts
  • Technology collaboration with engineering, planning, customer solutions, portfolio. market development and strategy teams.

  • Deliver seamless technology transfer to customer experience organizations - Network Operations NOC / TAC etc., service delivery teams and sales teams.

  • Interactions and collaboration with technology suppliers, partners and system integrators.


Others

  • Be aware of Colt information security, Health and Safety, Business continuity/quality and other ISO or equivalent policies/ industry standards and discharge duties against them as appropriate.
  • Identify Operational risks related to process regarding and information security and treat/ mitigate the same as appropriate.
