British Patient Capital (BPC) is a commercial subsidiary of the British Business Bank. BPC is the largest domestic investor in UK venture and venture growth capital funds with £2.5bn under management. BPC's long-term vision is for more home-grown and fully funded high growth companies to fulfil their potential to be players on the global stage. As a Senior Investment Manager, you will become a key part of the BPC team, responsible for the investment and ongoing management of the BPC fund investment programme, with a focus on Life Sciences. Reporting to the Director for Life Sciences, you will be required to lead on fund investments from origination thorough to deal execution; and to manage a portfolio of fund investments.
You will work across the range of activities of BPC, working with investment colleagues based in the Sheffield and London offices, and liaising with legal, risk, finance, and external advisors. You will critically appraise proposals from fund managers, including the in-depth analysis of track records, team dynamics, investment strategy, terms and other aspects; in order to deliver high-quality investment reports. You will also lead investment proposals for new fund investments, principally in the Life Sciences area, through the internal investment processes, supervising the work of other team members and reporting to the Director overseeing the transaction.
You will be working with internal teams and specialist legal advisors to scrutinise and negotiate investment legal documentation to ensure consistency with the commercial terms agreed; and you will deal with matters arising with fund investments, analysing issues, developing action plans, and communicating with interested parties to resolve disputes.
It is essential that you have substantial experience of working in fund management, investment banking, corporate finance or commercial lending with a Life Sciences focus. You will have knowledge of Life Sciences venture capital funding and due diligence, with an understanding of financial accounts and reporting, with significant operational knowledge of Microsoft Office software. It is desirable if you have experience working with SMEs.
