About the Role

Base Location:Flexible UK We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK.

The Role:
  • You will be responsible for delivering an estimating service across the UK and Ireland for SSE Energy Solutions covering Heat Networks and EV Infrastructure business units.
  • The Senior Estimating Manager (Heat Networks and EV Infrastructure) plays a pivotal role in supporting the Distributed Energy business by defining, implementing and driving our front end estimating strategy in relation to design and build of city scale energy networks (heating and cooling) and Electric Vehicle infrastructure including EV Hubs.
  • You will support Sector Directors to ensure the accuracy of price estimates at all stages of the project governance life cycle and help ensure we win and deliver against a growing pipeline of opportunities, in line with strategy and budget for both sectors.
  • You will build a database of specialist costs in relation to civils, mechanical and electrical infrastructure and work with our procurement team to implement an estimating policy and procedure that meets with all aspects of our Large Capital Projects governance.

  • For this role we would love you to have:
  • An excellent knowledge of industry best practise required to create high quality tender responses for large, sophisticated customers with multi-service requirements in Heat and EV Markets.
  • Sound electrical/mechanical/civils technology and site-specific knowledge
  • Qualified with an Undergraduate and/or post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline; preferably in quantity surveying/electrical/mechanical/civils, estimating or commercial management areas of study.
  • Significant experience of operating successfully in a large corporation, preferably involved in the Energy, Distributed Energy, District Heating/Cooling, EV, M&E Contracting, Energy Services, Technology and/or Facilities Management industries.
  • Excellent knowledge of contractual requirements, terms and conditions (Particularly NEC PSC, ECC Options A to C and/or JCT Design and Build)
  • Good understanding of technical drawings, and requirements to complete works (electrical/mechanical/civils).
  • Ability to" take-off" quantities from drawings or bill of quantities (electrical/mechanical/civils).
  • Ability to assess the levels of risk on a project and hold/update relevant Risk Registers.
