As a Senior Construction Manager you will support the successful delivery of design packages by providing constructability expertise, primarily during the Outline design and Consent phases. You will lead a team of construction managers and provide expertise to help create the construction strategy, phasing, methodology and programme, taking account of and integrating emerging environmental and logistical constraints and construction best practise.
The role will also involve liaison between other Jacobs departments, disciplines, contractors and external agencies.
You will be required to provide technical input on multiple facets of constructability throughout the development of the design of a project, including:
Temporary works requirements
Lifting and plant solutions
Earthworks and mass haulage
CDM and Principal Designer, Principal Contractor obligations
Responsibilities will entail overseeing the constructability input for multiple projects including drafting and reviewing option assessments matrices, assessing construction risks with proposed mitigations and provision of best practise advice. The post holder will therefore be able to lead a team, take initiative on their own and have an eye for detail when reviewing proposed schemes and output produced by the construction team.
As Senior Construction Manager, you will be required to review schedules produced both by the team and by third parties. Therefore, a detailed understanding of activity dependencies, time risk allowance and float is required. You will also have a good understanding of contractual issues including NEC contract options, contractual mechanisms, procurement routes, contract packaging and dispute resolution.
You will need a thorough knowledge of health, safety and environmental factors and direct experience of managing these issues on site. This is a key responsibility of the role as you will be required to identify risks in these areas, proactively lead projects in navigating these considerations, and advise on appropriate mitigation options.
The Senior Construction Manager is required to co-ordinate, co-operate and liaise with other Jacobs departments, contractors, clients and potentially external bodies for the purposes of design development. As such, you will require confidence, good communication and management skills to ensure that the constructability input is conveyed appropriately and given due consideration.
You will have substantial experience in working within the delivery of capital projects and will come from a civil engineering construction background. You will have an understanding of the role and benefits of DfMA, offsite manufacturing and virtual design and construction (e.g. virtual rehearsal, 4D modelling) and will be able to advocate for the use of these and other innovative tools and methodologies.
The role would suit an experienced civil engineer looking to transition into professional services.About you
You will have a relevant Engineering Degree or Diploma alongside membership and professional accreditation with a relevant professional institution such as the ICE.
- You will have a demonstrable track record of on-site experience directly delivering a broad range of multi-sector construction and engineering projects.
- The ability to independently review design proposals and assess the likely impact and risks associated with constructing the works, under the supervision of a project/team leader.
- Relevant health, safety and environment experience relating to the construction industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Contractual knowledge and commercial awareness.
- Experience of a broader range of specialist construction sectors e.g. mechanical, nuclear, marine.
- Experience using digital tools including 4D modelling and drafting programmes would be advantageous.
- Eligibility for security clearances relating to specific projects.
